Watching children work at the Carpenter Art Garden has proved again to me that creativity is good for the soul. Especially when kids contribute to a creation bigger than themselves, creativity can help them endure stress. They have outlets for things stuck inside. They have the social supports of the other artists. They see a greater good. And somehow all of this buffers them from stress. It’s as if, in the process of creating art, they create their ability to cope a bit better. It looks like they get something out of this besides art!
